TA 16-06 Net Salary Payment Date Changes for Calendar Year 2017
Published: December 16, 2016
Effective: Pay Period 25, 2016
Summary
National Finance Center (NFC) customers are being reminded of changes to the net salary payment dates for calendar year 2017.
Implementation
The first business day after payroll processing weekend is the official payment date for Direct Deposit and paper check net salary payments. Generally, net salary payments are processed with Monday's date. However, when a Federal holiday falls on payroll Monday, these payments are processed with Tuesday's date. The table below reflects the pay periods impacted by this change in calendar year 2017.
Pay Period |
Revised Direct Deposit/Paper Check Date |
Reason for Change(s) |
PP25/2016 |
Tuesday, January 3, 2017 |
Due to the New Year's Day holiday occurring on Monday, January 2, 2017. |
PP26/2016 |
Tuesday, January 17, 2017 |
Due to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday occurring on Monday, January 16, 2017. |
PP19/2017 |
Tuesday, October 10, 2017 |
Due to the Columbus Day holiday occurring on Monday, October 9, 2017. |
Note: Some financial institutions may credit Direct Deposit funds to personal bank accounts prior to the above official payment date. When this occurs, the bank will process the net salary payment as "pending" or "memo posting" transactions with an effective date of Monday (or Tuesday, if Monday is a Federal holiday). This earlier posting to personal bank accounts is a courtesy by some financial institutions, not all.
By regulation, financial institutions are not obligated to post funds earlier than the official payment date. NFC customers should not rely on their financial institution providing an earlier "memo posting" of their net salary payment prior to the above official payment date.
